My Journey To Glowing Skin

Every year around January I wonder why I live in the midwest. Once winter arrives, I forget all about the amazing Chicago summers and all of my fall favorites. I am ready to book a ticket to somewhere with a beach, sun-kissed vibes and put my toes in the sand. Winter tends to be a hard time for many of us to adapt to and the same goes for our skin. The days are shorter and the weather cooler, the winter time can cause dryness and irritated skin.

Winter has been a challenging time of year for my skin and increased my sensitivity. Dry skin has always been something I have had to deal with. Actually, I cannot think of a time when I did not have dry skin. It has been my number one skin care concern for decades. No matter how many products I tried, nothing ever worked. I did anything and everything to achieve beautiful glowing skin. However, my makeup never looked right and by the end of the day my foundation would absorb right into my skin. I should know the answer to this problem since I have been in the beauty industry for over 17 years.

How did I finally fight my dry skin once and for all? It started with something so simple. Drinking more water. I invested in a water bottle that tracks how much water I am drinking a day. I commit to at least drinking 64 ounces of water daily. I never drank enough water. Definitely enough coffee and diet soda. I thought I needed the caffeine, however a lot of that was in my own head. Don’t get me wrong, I love a trip to get coffee, however three times a day was a little too much. My morning workout and walk with my dog Peppa gives me the boost of energy I need. Plus exercise is great for your skin. The next change I made was to limit the time I spent in the shower. I love a long warm shower, it is a way for me to relax and refresh. This was adding to my problem in a big way. I decided to limit my time and use warm water instead of steaming hot water. Trust me, switching your water temperature will move your shower a little quicker.

Finally, I updated my skincare routine to truly address my dry skin. A lot of the time I was buying the latest trend or what was new on the market. It was time to invest in what my skin truly needed. I went completely clean in my entire skincare and makeup routine which was a game-changer for me. There were a lot of irritants and potentially toxic ingredients in many of the products I used. Since using my new beauty routine, my dry skin has improved and I feel confident in the performance of my makeup. Even in the coldest months of January and February which were awful for me in the past. I finally had the glow I was always aspiring to achieve.

No matter what you are looking for in your skin, there is a way to start achieving it. I believe that the right skincare products and a few lifestyle changes will make the impact you are looking for. Below are a few of my favorite products to help with dry skin and survive the winter months.

XOXO,

Sara
